Overview – Clock and Timing Solutions

All of the Adc and Dac boards in our product range have onboard clock and trigger generation. However, there are many times (pardon the pun) when an external clock and or trigger is needed. For example when multiple Adc’s cards and/or Dac’s cards are in a system and they must be locked in time and frequency. To provide a solution to this, there are currently 3 different boards available, Atropos, X3-Timing and ClockGen.

Atropos sample clock timing generator for clock generation

Atropos is the newest Clock and Trigger generator. This is an XMC card so it can be fitted in either a PC using XMC to PCIe, XMC to PCI, XMC to cPCI or XMC to PXI adapters. It can also be used in a standalone PC, ePC-Duo. The board has the following features:

  • Generation range 70.06 to 3080MHz
  • Onboard 10 MHz, 250 ppb oscillator
  • Four single/differential clock outputs
  • Four trigger outputs
  • Low noise: 91 fs RMS jitter -162.5 dBc/Hz noise floor (fc=245.76 MHz)
  • External or software trigger
  • External or internal reference
  • Can be used as clock and/or trigger buffer
X3-Timing XMC board, produces 4 precision sample clock and trigger outputs from a onboard reference or external reference or onboard GPS reference.

X3-Timing is a Clock and Trigger generator with GPS. This is an XMC card so it can be fitted in either a PC using XMC to PCIe, XMC to PCI, XMC to cPCI or XMC to PXI adapters. It can also be used in a standalone PC, ePC-Duo. The board has the following features:

  • Generation range 1.5kHz to 1000MHz
  • Onboard 10 MHz, 250 ppb oscillator
  • Optional GPS reference, PPS and location
  • Four single/differential clock outputs
  • Four trigger outputs
  • Low noise: 200 fs RMS jitter
  • External or software trigger
  • External or internal reference
  • Can be used as clock and/or trigger buffer
Clock Generator

ClockGen is our first Clock and Trigger generator. This is an PMC card so it can be fitted in either a PC using PMC to PCIe or PMC to PCI adapters. The board has the following features:

  • Generation range 100kHz to 270MHz with 0.01Hz resolution
  • Onboard 10 MHz, 250 ppb oscillator
  • Four single/differential clock outputs
  • < 1psRMS jitter
  • External or software trigger
  • External or internal reference
  • Can be used as clock and/or trigger buffer
